How to utilise a small space and turn it into a home office

Working from home but struggling to find a space for a proper office? There are some clever rules which once followed, should allow you to turn a small section of your home into a well organized and comfortable working space.

Very often, it's not about the money but clever planning. We want to share these useful tips and interior tricks with you so you can enjoy your work in a lovely, creative environment.

RULE No1 - Separate your work space form the rest of the home or room. Make sure you have a one designated spot where nothing else gets in a way. Ideally you would use a separate room as an office but in most cases you will need to share a space in the house so when it happens, try to be as far away from the noise as possible.

RULE No2 - When choosing the desk and chair, always think of comfort first. You are likely to spend a long time in one position so it's crucial for your wellbeing that the chair is comfy and the desk is at the right height.

RULE No3 - Pick the suitable light so when you work in the evenings your working area is well lit.

RULE No4 - Spend time on working out the optimal height for your computer screen. It's very important to position it at the right level to avoid headaches and back pains.

Now to the interior tricks...Picture yourself in the office of your dreams. Think of what makes you focused, sharp and happy.

If you are most productive when surrounded by art, create a lovely image gallery above the desk, so when looking for an inspiration or taking a short break to gather your thoughts you have something nice to look at.

If plants are your thing, surround yourself with some stunning greenery so you feel comfortable and content. When we feel happy, work doesn't seem such a chore...

If you like order but your work requires using samples or lots of paperwork, make sure you have created enough smart storage to keep things away when you don't need them. A simple floating shelf with storage boxes above the desk or small chest of drawers near by will do the trick.

If your job requires a full concentration and focus, avoid bright, distracting colours. Stick to neutral tones or any colour that you like, but one that makes you feel calm.

It is really advisable to spend time on creating a perfect working station for ourselves as we spend more and more time at the desks. Life is much easier and more pleasant when we surround ourselves with pretty things that make us feel good.
