What's the difference between tint and shade?

When we talk about the colour we tend to use several different words such as tone, hue or shade. But what do they actually mean? It's very simple and easy to remember so memorise this and look like a pro next time you shop for your paint! Colour (or hue) is used to describe a strong, saturated version of the colours as we know them. Tint is the colour of your choice with a bit of white in it. Tone is the very same colour with a bit of grey. And shade is the same colour with a bit of black. Obviously, depending on how much of white, grey or black we add to the original hue, we get many, many different versions of one particular colour but once you remember the above rule, your paint shopping will become easier and more fun!
